Dallas Was the No. 3 Metro in the U.S. for Tech Jobs Postings in April

According to a new CompTIA Tech Jobs Report, Dallas was the No. 3 metro in the U.S. for tech job postings in April, surpassed by only New York City and Washington, D.C., at No. 1 and 2.

Despite uncertainties in the economy, metro Dallas continues to be a leader both in tech jobs postings and tech jobs posting change.

According to a new CompTIA Tech Jobs Report, Dallas was the No. 3 metro in the U.S. for tech job postings in April, surpassed by only New York City and Washington, D.C., at No. 1 and 2.

The report compares April 2023 data with results from March. Dallas

Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Jose, and Baltimore rounded out the top 10 in most tech jobs postings.

Of all U.S. metros, Dallas was unsurpassed in the category of tech jobs posting change, ranking No. 1 in the nation for its increase of 875 postings over March’s 11,604 figure.

In April, California led the nation in tech jobs postings, followed by Texas at No. 2, with 26,780 total postings.

Hiring ‘increases while also taking a breather’

Tech hiring increased in April “while also taking a breather,” CompTIA noted.

Tech sector companies increased staffing by 18,795 positions in April, the largest volume of monthly hiring since August 2022, the report notes, with new hiring of technology infrastructure, manufacturing and services workers leading the growth.

In the same month, occupations throughout the economy took a step back, declining by 99,000 positions. The unemployment rate for tech occupations inched up to 2.3%, still well below the national unemployment rate of 3.4%, the report said.

“It was another all-too-familiar month of mixed labor market signals,” Tim Herbert, chief research officer at CompTIA, said in a statement. “The surprisingly strong tech sector employment gains were offset by the pause in tech hiring across the economy.”

Top industries for tech job postings in April

Nationwide, the Top 5 industries for tech job postings in April were Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services with 78,658 postings; Administrative and Support with 32,861 postings; Finance and Insurance with 32,820 postings; Manufacturing with 31,959 postings; and Information with 15,159 postings.

CompTIA’s Tech Jobs Report provides a monthly snapshot of IT employment trending at the occupation and industry levels. The report coincides with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation monthly labor market release. Analysis includes historical trending, employer hiring activity at the state and metro area level, unemployment rates, employer demand for emerging tech skills, and more.
