Medal of Honor Museum Foundation Names Troy Bertram as CEO

Troy Bertram, an Army veteran and former Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services executive, brings a passion for public service and public sector partnerships to the Arlington-based foundation.

The National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation recently tapped former tech executive and Army veteran Troy Bertram as CEO to spearhead its next chapter of growth.

The National Medal of Honor Museum, which opened last year in Arlington, was named the nation’s top new museum by USA Today. The foundation oversees the museum, the planned National Medal of Honor Monument in Washington, D.C., and the Griffin Institute, a leadership initiative for K-12 students. The organization promotes everyone’s “extraordinary” potential and the “Medal of Honor values.”

Bertram succeeds Chris Cassidy, who was the foundation’s CEO from August 2021 to December 2025.

“Our mission is to inspire America with the stories of ordinary people who took extraordinary action in service of others in the moments that matter most,” Charlotte Jones, chairman of the foundation’s board of directors and the Dallas Cowboys’ co-owner and chief brand officer, said in a statement. “Troy’s experience will help us scale this historic nonprofit museum and institute to reach even more people with the values of courage and sacrifice, commitment and integrity, citizenship and patriotism.”

Jones said Bertram’s passion for serving fellow Americans and guiding the foundation’s mission made him the ideal person for the job.

“Beyond his traditional credentials, his unique background positions him to elevate our work at a time America needs this unifying example more than ever,” she said.

‘The mission of a lifetime’

Bertram’s career, which spans more than three decades, includes executive roles at Google Cloud; Amazon Web Services, known as AWS; and Dell Technologies.

“Medal of Honor recipients are some of the most inspiring people. I am humbled to be part of the team trusted with their legacies and empowered to ensure the lessons of their service endure for generations to come,” Bertram said in a statement. “Throughout my career — from serving as an Army officer to leading global tech enterprises — I have believed in servant leadership and building institutions that matter.”

Bertram, a 20-year resident of Texas, called the CEO role “the mission of a lifetime.”

“What the team has built here in Arlington … is a true national treasure,” he said. “Opening the doors was just the first milestone. I am thrilled to work alongside our team, partners and supporters to expand our programming, welcome new visitors and inspire the next generation.”

Most recently, Bertram was executive managing director of Google Cloud, where he developed the company’s public-sector partnership system. Under his leadership, the business grew significantly. In 2025, he won a Wash100 Award for forging relationships with partners and driving digital transformation for government agencies and regulated industries.

At AWS, he managed teams in 26 countries and helped build what now is a multibillion-dollar driver of revenue for the public sector business. Before AWS, Bertram spent over a decade at Round Rock-based Dell Technologies forming and leading sales, services and operations teams. He also has served as senior vice president of sales and business development at Telos Corp. and chief revenue officer at Lockheed Martin-backed Saildrone.

Bertram launched his Army career as a commissioned ROTC officer and later served as a communications officer in the 82nd Airborne Division.

More on the foundation

The National Medal of Honor Museum spotlights the stories of Medal of Honor recipients through methods such as interactive exhibits and first-person stories. An estimated 40 million people have served in the U.S. military since the Civil War, but fewer than 4,000 Americans have been awarded the Medal of Honor.

Donations to the nonprofit 501(c)(3), as well as proceeds from ticket sales and museum memberships, support the foundation’s work.

“The National Medal of Honor Museum uses our stories and those of the individuals we served alongside, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice, to inspire others to make a difference in their own communities,” said Medal of Honor recipient and foundation board member Jack Jacobs.

“During this 250th anniversary year [of the U.S.], the values embodied by the Medal of Honor feel especially meaningful,” he said. “Troy understands how values-driven leadership can build institutions that strengthen our nation and bring people together. I cannot wait to see all the foundation accomplishes in the years to come.”

Since it opened in March 2025, the museum has welcomed more than 100,000 visitors. The museum received a Prix Versailles award as one of seven places on this year’s list of the World’s Most Beautiful Museums.

The Griffin Institute has reached 300,000 K-12 students from 12,000 schools.

The foundation also oversees the planned National Medal of Honor Monument. The National Medal of Honor Monument Act, signed into law in 2021, authorized construction of the monument on federal land in the capital. President Abraham Lincoln authorized the first Navy Medal of Honor in 1861 and first Army Medal of Honor in 1862.

The Texas Medal of Honor Monument debuted in 1999 at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
