IT services and consulting giant NTT Data recently opened its Cyber Defense Center in Plano, where the company maintains its North American headquarters.
NTT Data held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new center on Oct. 9.
The Japanese company generated about $30 billion in revenue during its most recent fiscal year. NTT Data employs more than 2,500 people in Texas, including in Plano, Farmers Branch, Garland and Austin.
NTT Data said the Plano center expands its cybersecurity network by harnessing AI capabilities, threat intelligence and human expertise to detect and combat cyberthreats.
“The opening underscores NTT Data’s continued investment in North Texas and its commitment to helping protect clients worldwide,” the company said in a statement.
Plano Mayor John Muns said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony that the cybersecurity center is a valuable asset for North Texas.
It’s “an important milestone in our community and a testament to the talent, investment and collaboration that continue to drive North Texas forward,” Muns said.
Other North Texas cyber players
NTT Data is among many North Texas organizations working on cybersecurity tools and services.
For example, Dallas-based unicorn Island produces a custom web browser that combines security and IT controls. Last month, Island announced a $400 million Series F round valuing the startup at $6.4 billion.
Irving-based DigitalXForce also offers cybersecurity services. Earlier this year, the company launched a platform that tackles increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity threats.
In higher education, Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas received federal grants last year to work on advanced cybersecurity systems.
Importance of ‘cyber resilience’
The opening of NTT Data’s new center coincided with Cybersecurity Awareness Month. NTT Data said the center highlights the importance of “cyber resilience.”
In an interview with WFAA, center manager Antonia Guevara said the facility operates around the clock, tracking thousands of cyberthreats in hopes of squashing them.
“We have to make sure we stop them before they stop us,” Guevara said.
To aid that effort, NTT Data acquired WinWire, a Santa Clara, California-based digital engineering and consulting firm whose specialties included enterprise AI. In 2025, the State of Texas chose NTT Data to manage its public cloud services.
