McKinney-based radio-controlled vehicle maker Traxxas L.P. won five new design patents the week of Aug. 18. The patents cover three model vehicle bodies, a grill guard and a bumper and come at a time the company has been promoting its product innovation.
In June, Traxxas announced an upgrade to its electric motors. Its new Velineon 3s Brushless Power System is designed to deliver improved torque, efficiency and durability in the company’s 1/10-scale vehicles, Traxxas said in the announcement. It also unveiled a refreshed VX3 lineup of its Slash, Rustler and Stampede models.
The more recent design patents named three inventors: Adam Cole Ewing of McKinney, Kent Poteet of Lucas and Otto Karl Allmendinger of Rowlett. They were the most active inventors in North Texas for the week.

Texas Instruments Inc. (Dallas) once again led the region by volume with 25 patents. That week’s grants included an opto-emulator, a bidirectional phase shifter, a monopole antenna design aimed at improved RF efficiency and a method for optimizing clock scheduling in electronic design automation tools.
Outdoor Wireless Networks LLC (Richardson) received five patents that week tied to base station antenna technology, including designs for parallel feed boards, high-performance patch-type radiating elements for massive MIMO systems and a communication system supporting quasi-full-duplex operation.
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America Inc. (Plano) received five patents covering vehicle systems.
Apogee 5G Global LLC (Plano) received three patents covering wireless communication methods, including antenna configuration selection in unlicensed spectrum and random access in small-data transmissions.
The patent awards also included several companies based outside the region whose inventors are located in North Texas. These include patents for Bank of America, Capital One, Verizon, USAA, Samsung and Cisco.
