Plano’s Tyler Technologies acquired Pennsylvania-based CODY Systems, a software and data management, integration and exchange solutions company serving public safety, law enforcement and other public sector entities.

Tyler said the deal adds cloud-based records management and data-sharing tools to its public safety portfolio.

Expanding public safety resources

“We know that public safety agencies continue to face pressure to do more with limited resources while keeping systems current and secure,” said Andrew Hittle, president of Tyler’s Public Safety Division, in a statement. “By adding CODY Systems’ solutions, these agencies will continue to benefit from technology designed to fit how they actually work, including tools that support day-to-day tasks in dispatch and records, systems that can scale and grow with the agency, and cost-effective approaches to help stretch often-limited budgets.”

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The management and staff of CODY Systems will become part of the Tyler team.

The addition of CODY Systems strengthens Tyler’s competitive position in the small to midsize segment of the public safety market by allowing the company to offer additional resources that support accelerated implementations, enhanced interoperability and better access to real-time information, the company said.

Streamlining records management and incident support

With the combined business, CODY Systems’ Pathfinder RMS solution provides a cloud-native records management platform that aligns with Tyler’s cloud-first direction and operating model. Tyler said the platform will provide a foundation for integration with its other products and with the broader public safety technology ecosystem.

CODY Systems offers another solution, called COBRAnet, which supports cross-agency, regional and statewide information sharing. Improving access to real-time information will offer a clearer picture of situations, helping agencies coordinate more effectively and speed decision-making during incidents, the company said.

David Heffner, president of CODY Systems, said that becoming part of Tyler Technologies “is a deeply meaningful moment” for company founders and team members.

“What began with our co-founders’ bold vision 47 years ago has grown to become a respected software leader through the dedication and ingenuity of our employees, the loyalty of our customers, and adherence to our core values,” Heffner said in a statement.

He said that he was looking back on what CODY Systems has built “with tremendous pride” and looking forward with “full confidence” at the next chapter.
